What is the Close the Gap Social Impact Fellowship?

Close the Gap pairs industry mentors with low income high school students for the summer. You will mentor a Fellow through a summer social impact project of their choosing, and help shape their lives forever.

WHY CLOSE THE GAP NEEDS YOU

Close the Gap is looking for a mission-driven and empathetic group of mentors to inspire and engage with our summer Fellows through weekly video chat check-ins, virtual socials, Slack channel engagement, and workshops.

Our annual all-expenses-paid summer Fellowship Program includes a diverse group of students who are first-generation and low-income students. We have an ambitious goal to multiply our program participation by 5X scale, and your efforts will shape the future of our nonprofit organization, making a very tangible impact in these students’ lives, and future students for years to come.

This role will require a minimum commitment from Late May (mentor orientation) through the program dates, June to September.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

Commit to checking in weekly with your Fellow, to forge a meaningful and lasting relationship.

Check-in bi-weekly with a volunteer on our team to communicate status and potential roadblocks
Share your lived experience with a high school student, helping answer questions on professional topics such as resumes, public speaking, and applying to college.
Learn alongside your Fellow by attending 5 Sunday afternoon workshops on professional topics, featuring industry speakers and interactive activities.
Collaborate with your Fellow to ensure they are on track, and have everything they need in order to create an impactful social impact project

Our 2020 fellow Janet Yu used Zoom to hold virtual financial literacy workshops for Gen Z! She was awarded the top scholarship for her impactful project.

My parents are immigrants, so I don’t have a lot of role models to look up to for college prep. Close the Gap provided me with so many opportunities and even paired me up with a mentor from Amazon who has helped me with college applications. I now have so many role models I can always go to for help.
